I would venture a guess that the majority of us, in our lifetimes, have not been witness to the kind of uproar and division we are seeing in our country today. I was just a child during the racial unrest of the sixties; and, although I remember it happening, I was certainly not anywhere near as tuned in to that crisis as I am to the upheaval and tumult now front and center every day.
Not to worry – I am not about to launch into a political rant as there is way too much of that flying around as it is. What I am going to say – very simply – is that it’s time for a little kindness and empathy. I may not agree with the point of view of those whose opinions differ from mine; but I hope I have the character to at least respect their right to believe whatever they wish to without belittling or castigating.
When Jodi and I launched A Wish For You six months ago, there was a lot we knew, a lot we THOUGHT we knew, and much more that we have learned since then! It’s certainly been more rewarding than I ever would have believed, not only financially, but also rewarding on a much deeper level. We have the privilege of being the “caretakers” of your tender, warm, and kind thoughts one to another. We are facilitators to transmit those sentiments. And we reap the rewards when you reach out to us with your testimonials of how A Wish For You brightened someone’s day and lifted her up when she might have been at her lowest.
This business – which started as a germ of an idea during a hurricane evacuation – has been a vehicle for sharing messages of love, joy, prayers, and laughter to our customers and to us. Jodi and I often say that fulfilling Wishes is our gift to US and reminds us to be gentler and kinder each day. In the face of so much “noise” out there, we have found that a little kindness goes a long way towards neutralizing the ugliness of dissent. We are better because you’ve Shared Your Heart.
